Liposuction Masterpieces: The Art of Sculpting Bodies to Perfection

What is Art Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes excess fat from the body to create a slimmer look. The standard form of this procedure is primarily focused on reducing bulky fat, typically in the area of the abdomen, back, arms, and thighs.

A typical procedure by an average surgeon is focused on removing fat, not sculpting the body to form a more attractive silhouette. But in the hands of a skilled artistic Board-certified plastic surgeon, the liposuction procedure can be like an artist sculpting a statue. While the procedure would still focus on removing excess fat, the artistic surgeon takes it a step further by sculpting the remaining fat to form a masterpiece of a silhouette, with patients typically appearing slimmer, as well as more toned and contoured.

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure, but liposculpture is an artistic marvel. When performed by a skilled and artistically trained surgeon, liposuction can be considered an art form. Like a sculptor working with clay or marble, an artistic plastic surgeon creates beautiful contours and by sculpting the fat.

Are There Benefits to Working with an Artistic Plastic Surgeon?

In most cases, plastic surgeons are doctors, not artists, and have little to no art experience. But for plastic surgeons who do possess artistic skills, there is a distinct advantage to the patient. Plastic surgeons with artistic training can offer their patients a variety of extra benefits, including:

  • Seeing the human body through the eyes of an artist, not just a trained medical professional
  • The ability to draw out the ideal results for their patients during their consultation
  • The knowledge of and ability to use sculpting techniques during surgery to create a more aesthetically pleasing silhouette
  • The knowledge of artistic skills to properly position their patients for the most defined sculpting of fat.

How are Liposuction & Liposculpting Done?

The human body stores fat as a superficial and as a seep layer.  The superficial layer is thin and immediately under the skin.  The deeper fat layer is thicker and above the muscles.  Standard liposuction is a simpler procedure that removes deep fat which is thicker and covers a larger area, giving the appearance of a more contoured body. This is what most people get when they have liposuction.  Liposculpting or lipoetching takes this procedure a step further by etching and contouring the superficial fat, after the deep fat is suctioned, to sculpt the liposuctioned area, to create definitions, and to add shadows, lines and curves over the liposuctioned area.  The result of lipoetching is visible on the skin layer.  This is usually done on a smaller area for more precision. In general, liposculpting is more complicated and more difficult to perform, so the surgeon must have the right training, skill, and an artistic eye.
