Buttocks Enhancement
Newport Beach

A Comprehensive Guide to the Best Surgeries
to Achieve Your Ideal Buttocks

Gone are the days when bust size seemed to be the primary beauty ideal for women. These days, butt size matters, too.

Some like it big and bubbly, complementing an hourglass-shaped figure like Sofia Vergara and Nicki Minaj. Others would like it toned down a bit to match their lean physiques, like Megan Fox and Cameron Diaz.

When it comes to butt aesthetics, it’s not always the bigger, the better. It all depends on your whole back aesthetics, as your butt is only one feature.

The overall appearance of your buttocks depends on how smooth and sculpted the back, the waist, the butt, and the thighs look.

With buttock enhancement procedures, you have the option of modifying your backside depending on your anatomy and preferences. You can request for a bigger and tighter booty using buttock implants and Brazilian butt lift, or you can ask for a smaller but taut bottom by getting a butt lift with reduction.

Dr. Siamak Agha, one of SoCal’s top board-certified plastic surgeons, specializes in buttock enhancement and reshaping procedures for the past 18 years.

He has continually accommodated a wide range of requests for beautifying the buttocks and improving the appearance of the surrounding areas, leading him to offer various buttock enhancement surgeries to his patients.

OVERVIEW

What Determines Buttock Size and Shape?

Before diving into the different buttock enhancement procedures, it is important to understand first the certain features that define an aesthetically beautiful pair of buttocks and how it complements your figure.

The shape of your buttocks is influenced by a number of factors, such as genetics, race, gender, aging, and weight. Some people have small or large buttocks that are genetically coded. For others, the buttock shape and size may reflect their racial background.

Aging results in a mild degree of fat loss with skin and connective tissue laxity, making the buttocks loose and saggy. Similarly, after pregnancy, many women experience fat loss from their buttocks, while others may notice larger buttocks.

Weight can also influence and affect the volume and shape of your bum and its surrounding anatomy. Weight gain can result in buttock enlargement, while massive weight loss patients experience a significant deflation of the buttock region and the rest of their body. The deflated buttocks appear loose and saggy, coupled with significant skin and soft tissue excess on the lower back.

Apart from buttock size, buttock shape is also influenced by the aforementioned factors. Plastic surgeons have classified buttocks into four shapes: boxy-type, A-type, V-type, and circular-type.

Circular-Type Buttocks

Circular-type buttocks have an equal width-to-height ratio. This means each butt cheek looks perfectly round and the buttocks merge smoothly with the hips. In this shape, the fat is centrally distributed over the buttocks.

Characterized by a narrow waist, circular-type buttocks are what most women aspire for, as this is the buttock shape of celebrities like Kim Kardashian. A narrow waist paired with round buttocks is the foundation to a beautiful hourglass body physique.

Boxy-Type Buttocks

Also known as the square-shaped or H-shaped buttocks, the boxy-type is the most common buttock shape you’ll find among women.

Here, the waist and hips have the same widths, so your buttock width is equal to the size of your waist. The butt also appears to start at mid-back, making it look long and a bit masculine.

Though the buttocks themselves are not actually boxy, there is no demarcation between the lower back and the upper buttocks, making it appear as if the fat in the lower back and waist merges with that of the upper buttocks. Hence, it creates a boxy shape to your back.

This buttock type also appears flat since most of your fat is stored around your lower back and love handles rather than the bum.

A-Type Buttocks

The heart or pear-shaped buttocks look like an upside-down heart. It features rounded butt cheeks, with the outer lower part having more volume than the rest of the cheeks. It is found aesthetically pleasing within the Latino culture, as exemplified by J. Lo’s buttock shape.

Women with A-type buttocks have small waists that flare towards the buttocks, especially the lower portion. The fat is distributed largely over the lower buttocks.

However, this shape is also the most prone to sagging as you get older.

V-Type Buttocks

V-shaped buttocks are characterized by a waist that is wider than the top of your butt and hips. Patients with this butt type typically have buttocks that get narrower and smaller towards the lower butt. They also have slim thighs with little fat on them.

You usually see this buttock shape among older ladies. Aging causes a decrease in estrogen levels, causing fat to move to other areas of the body after menopause. Thus, your buttocks start to lose volume as a result.

Today, every woman wants to have curves and strive for an hourglass physique. But what exactly constitutes the ideal buttock shape?

There are certain features that define an aesthetically beautiful butt, such as the following:

  • Circular or A-type butt shape
  • Round and perky buttocks projected appropriately for your body type
  • A smooth inward sweep of the lower back, also known as lower back concavity devoid of excess fat
  • A V-shaped depression that demarcates the lower back and upper buttocks
  • Little to no buttock sagging, wrinkles, or cellulite

But Dr. Agha believes that the focus should not just be the ideal buttocks, but the ideal back view. This includes the ideal back contour — meaning the ideal buttocks framed by the ideal back, waist, and thighs.

What is Buttock Enhancement?

Medically known as gluteoplasty, buttock enhancement is the lifting, sculpting, reshaping, reducing, or augmenting of your buttocks to help you achieve an aesthetically pleasing and proportional body figure.

But buttock enhancement isn’t just one procedure. Each patient has different needs and requests to make their derriere look as desirable as possible, so Dr. Agha has developed signature buttock reshaping procedures as a result of his extensive experience in body contouring surgery.

Do You Need Buttock Enhancement?

To know if you need to get any of Dr. Agha’s buttock enhancement procedures, here are some questions that you should ask yourself first:

  • Are you bothered and unhappy with the size of your bum?
  • Do you want to change the general shape of your butt?
  • Are your buttocks asymmetrical?
  • Do you want to get rid of sagging or loose skin in your buttocks?
  • Do you want to wear clothes that fit better on your backside?
  • Do you feel self-conscious about your buttocks?
  • Do you have flat or square-shaped buttocks?
  • Would you like to have a sculpted, hourglass silhouette?
  • Do you want to have smaller buttocks?

Did you answer YES to any of these questions? If so, then it’s high time for you to consider your buttock enhancement options to help you achieve the derriere that you’ve always wanted.

… But Can You Get Buttock Enhancement?

Before getting any buttock enhancement procedure, you first need to consider the following factors that might affect your results:

If you want to get a Brazilian butt lift, you need to have enough fat in other areas of your body for fat grafting. Similarly, your buttocks should also have a fair amount of fat and muscles to serve as a foundation for the harvested fat.

It is recommended that you are at least 18 years old before getting any buttock enhancement surgery.

Having good physical health with no severe pre-existing conditions is a must for every cosmetic surgery, including butt enhancement procedures. Otherwise, it might make your operation too risky.

Discuss with your plastic surgeon the reasons why you want to get buttock enhancement, including the results you’re expecting.

My results from my butt lift revision, body contouring, and posterior thigh lipo are AMAZING!!! Not only did Dr. Agha give me back my butt crack, he also made me look like a better version of myself.

What Types of Buttocks Enhancement Procedures are Offered by Dr. Agha?

Whether your goal is to correct the lack of your butt projection, lift your buttocks after weight loss, or simply reshape or reduce your buttocks, you have several choices.

Buttock enhancement procedures can be classified into three general types. Here is a quick overview of these surgeries, as well as the procedures falling under them:

Buttock Augmentation Procedures

Also known as buttock lipoaugmentation or buttock fat transfer, Brazilian butt lift or BBL is a method of increasing your butt size using your autologous or own fat cells.

This is the more commonly requested buttock augmentation procedure by most of Dr. Agha’s patients. It is often the method of choice for people who have excess fat in other unwanted areas of their body and want to transfer them into their butt cheeks.

BBL involves harvesting your fat via liposuction from various parts of your body, like your flanks, hips, lower back, thighs, or abdomen.  The fat is then processed and injected into your buttocks through minute incisions. Doing so fills your buttock tissue, resulting in a lifted and rounder backside.

And because the areas receiving liposuction are now leaner and sculpted, your round and full buttocks will become the beautiful highlight of your sensuous new shape.

With Dr. Agha’s meticulous fat processing and micrografting principles, you can get predictable results for your BBL. His method achieves one of the highest fat survivals with about 80% of the injected fat becoming permanent.

Though it takes significantly longer to perform than butt implant placement, BBL produces superior, natural-looking, and permanent results customized according to your desired buttock shape.

But take note that BBL is not for everyone. Before you can get this surgery, you must have enough fat in other areas of your body to serve as a fat source. You should also have enough fat in your buttocks to serve as a foundation for the grafted fat to grow into.

For a more in-depth look at BBL, go to the Brazilian butt lift main page.

If you have minimal body fat and desire a significant volume increase in your booty, you are better off getting butt implants.

The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of solid and semi-solid silicone implants for buttock augmentation surgery. Compared to breast implants, butt implants are much stronger and more durable because of their solid core, despite being soft and flexible.

Dr. Agha will help you select the size and shape of buttock implants to use depending on your figure and preferences.

Though the use of butt implants is safe, it is riskier compared to BBL because an artificial silicone implant does not incorporate into your normal tissues the way your own fat cells do.

Plus, buttock implants do not feel as natural as your own fat. It also has longer recovery time and more discomfort compared to BBL.

Buttock Lift Procedures

Some people are already satisfied with the size of their booties, but they still want to make their butt skin smoother by getting rid of sagging skin and unsightly cellulite. For these concerns, butt lift procedures are the best solutions.

They involve the removal of excess skin on your upper buttocks and lower back, lifting your butt and correcting its droopiness.

You can have a butt lift surgery on its own, but you also have the option of pairing it with a reduction or augmentation procedure.

Butt Lift with Augmentation

A buttock lift alone will not add any volume to your buttocks, but combining it with augmentation helps alter the shape and size of your buttocks.

Butt lift with augmentation increases your buttock projection with the use of your lower back fat while tightening the butt skin.

To do the buttock augmentation paired with a butt lift, Dr. Agha creates parallel curved incisions over the lower back and upper buttocks. The fat in between is then developed as a flap on each side. A flap is any tissue that has its own blood vessels.

He then creates a pocket over the butt muscle on each side, rotates the lower back flaps into buttock pockets, and secures them in position using sutures. Dr. Agha then elevates the buttocks over the flaps to meet the lower back incision.

As a master surgeon who has done hundreds of butt lift and augmentation surgeries, Dr. Agha places his butt lift incision at the junction of the new lower back and the buttocks.

Butt Lift with Reduction

Butt lift with reduction is the removal of excess skin and fat from the buttocks and lower back, thus reducing the size and shape of your booty.

The procedure involves lifting the buttocks higher and correcting sagging while reducing its overall size.

Just like the buttock augmentation with lift, buttock reduction with lift involves the creation of parallel curved incisions over the lower back and upper butt. This time, the skin and fat between the two incisions are excised, and the buttocks are elevated to a new position.

You’ll know that it’s performed correctly when the final incision lies at the junction of the new lower back and the buttocks.

Dr. Agha reshaped my body. I get compliments ALL the time because my butt is perky and round, but not over the top. I expected to have a nice butt after the procedure, but I didn't realize how good he made the rest of my body look.

The Back View Procedures

If you already have a nicely shaped derriere but would want to accentuate it further, liposculpture of the excess fat from your back, love handles, and saddlebags can help underscore your beautiful buttocks.

In this procedure, the buttocks are not operated on per se. It is the surrounding structures that influence the silhouette of the buttocks that are sculpted based on Dr. Agha’s years of experience.

Dr. Agha will perform liposculpture of the lower back to accentuate the V-shaped demarcation of the back and backside. Lower back dimples can be formed if desired.

Excess prominence of the flanks and saddlebags can then be liposuctioned to obtain a smooth hourglass contour.
