How Is Brazilian Butt Lift Surgery Performed?
Dr. Agha performs BBL surgeries in a fully accredited outpatient surgery center.
The length of the procedure depends on the specifics of surgery and the amount of liposuction, although in general, each BBL procedure takes about three to four hours.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how Dr. Agha performs each BBL procedure.
Preparation
Before your BBL, Dr. Agha will ask you to quit smoking for at least three weeks before the procedure.
You will also be asked to temporarily stop taking certain drugs and supplements, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin, as these cause bleeding after surgery.
Make sure that you arrange for a friend or family member to drive you to and from the clinic, as you won’t be able to do so after your surgery. You also need to have someone to stay with and take care of you for at least a few days after your BBL.
Prepare any materials that you will need for your recovery, such as compression garments, antibiotics, painkillers, and gauze.
Do not eat or drink anything starting from midnight prior to your surgery.
Anesthesia
All Brazilian butt lift procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia since comprehensive liposuction is necessary.
Tumescent Liposuction
First, Dr. Agha will inject a solution of local anesthesia into the intended incision site and areas marked for liposuction. Known as tumescent solution, the fluid contains a very low concentration of lidocaine and epinephrine. The fluid plumps up the fat while lidocaine numbs the surgical site.
Epinephrine constricts the blood vessels, reducing your potential for bleeding and bruising.
Once numbing has kicked in, Dr. Agha removes fat from marked areas of your body, like your flanks, back, and saddlebags. He does this using very gentle, low-vacuum liposuction to protect the living fat cells.
Fat Transfer
The harvested fat is then washed with an antibiotic solution. After processing it, the fat is injected into the buttocks as minute droplets or micrografts.
Dr. Agha uses specialized instruments and techniques for microinjection to ensure that the blood supply to the newly transplanted cells is optimal. This maximizes fat cell survival in their new location within the buttock tissues.
The fat micrografting process allows your buttocks to be contoured to your desired size and shape. Dr. Agha can greatly increase the fullness and projection of your backside by layering many fine layers of fat micrografts throughout your buttocks’ fatty tissues.
Dr. Agha’s unique BBL technique ensures that as much as 80% of the transferred fat will survive in its new location. But because around 20% of the injected fat will be reabsorbed, Dr. Agha usually exaggerates grafting to ensure optimal augmentation.
It also takes 6-8 weeks before the micrografted fat is fully re-vascularized. After that period, further loss of volume is minimal.
Post-Surgery
Dr. Agha carefully closes your incisions using sutures.
He then applies sterile dressing on the incisions and instructs you to wear compression garments 24 hours a day for 3-4 weeks following surgery.
The compression garment reduces postoperative swelling and bruising, supports your lower body during healing, and helps create the final form and shape of your backside.
You will be asked to stay in the recovery room for about an hour or two before being released to your friend or family member. You may also enlist the help of a private duty nurse at home.
How Do You Recover from a Brazilian Butt Lift Procedure?
Stay – Recovery from BBL may take up to 14 days. But you are encouraged to get out of bed and start walking within 24 hours to enhance your circulation and reduce your chances of developing blood clots in your legs.
Day of Surgery – Right after your surgery, you may notice some blood-tinged fluid oozing from your liposuction site. It is actually tumescent fluid that was injected to plump up your tissues for liposuction. You don’t have to worry about it as it is normal and only lasts for a day.
Bruising – However, bruising is inevitable in many areas that are liposuctioned or grafted. It might even extend to adjacent and dependent areas. Though these bruises will resolve on their own, make sure that you avoid sun exposure while you’re recovering so that the bruises do not become permanent skin stains.
