Cara Delevingne, Emilia Clarke, and Lily Collins — eyebrows are women’s current beauty obsession, thanks to these stars’ exquisitely groomed, bushy brow. Add that up to the countless makeup tutorials on YouTube teaching you how to get #browsonfleek all the time.

But fabulous eyebrows would all be for naught if not positioned right where they’re supposed to be.

Ideally, your eyebrows should be positioned about ½ inch above the supraorbital rim—the bony ridge forming your eye socket’s roof. Furthermore, the brow arch should be around two-thirds off the central part of your face or above your pupil.

Eyebrows tend to sag and end up in a lower position on your forehead as you age. This causes wrinkles in your upper eyelids, giving them a hooded, drooping appearance. You may even find it annoying to put eye makeup on your lids because your drooping brows keep getting in the way.

You’ll also notice forehead lines and wriknkes become more pronounced, including those little vertical furrows between your brows known as glabellar lines.

But thanks to the forehead lift, facial rejuvenation is a breeze. You can reposition your brows and eliminate those wrinkles and deep grooves in your forehead, taking years off of your face.

Dr. Siamak Agha of The Aesthetic Centers can transform you from being always grumpy to pleasant and happy. Here’s how our forehead brow lift in Newport Beach works.

What is a Brow Lift (Also Known As Forehead Lift?)

Also known as forehead lift surgery, the brow lift does two things:

  • It makes you look a lot younger by removing the frown lines, wrinkles, and deep grooves on your forehead.
  • It helps your face express your emotions better by raising and repositioning your drooping eyebrows.

Aging makes your face’s skin and soft tissues lose elasticity, causing your brows to move down. It can also narrow the distance between your brows and eyelashes It’s the culprit why you appear to be always frowning and scowling even when you’re not.

If such cases sound like your everyday reality, a Newport Beach brow lift might just be the solution you’re looking for. By raising the soft tissues and the skin on your forehead and brows, you can enjoy a more refreshed and pleasing appearance.

Forehead lifts are a pretty popular anti-aging procedurebased on the 2022 Plastic Surgery Statistics Report by American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). ASPS Member Surgeons performed a total of 13,318 forehead lift procedures during that year.

Fun Fact: Did you know that getting a forehead or brow lift is like a day out? It’s often done on an outpatient basis at an ambulatory surgical care facility.

What are the Different Forehead and Brow Lift Techniques?

Depending on your specific situation, you may undergo a traditional, endoscopic, or hairline forehead lift.

Let’s explore these techniques in detail:

Traditional Forehead and Brow Lift

The classic or traditional forehead lift is extremely effective in smoothing out forehead wrinkles and repositioning the brow at a higher position.

A coronal incision is made from ear to ear, across the scalp in the hair-bearing area extending to the bone.

Your plastic surgeon gently separates the scalp and forehead soft tissues from the bone, all the way as far as the brows. The muscles anchoring the brow centrally may be weakened.

The surgeon then lifts the skin to smooth out forehead wrinkles and raise the eyebrows to their new position. The forehead skin is then anchored at a higher position with sutures or plates. Any excess tissue is removed before closing the incision in multiple layers.

Note that the traditional forehead lift comes with a long ear-to-ear incision across the middle of the scalp. Your hairline will be pulled back on the scalp, elongating your forehead.

Thus, the traditional forehead lift isn’t recommended for people who have long foreheads or thinning hair. It’s best for patients who have a thick set of hair and short foreheads with deep forehead lines.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Instead of one long incision, the endoscopic forehead lift uses several small incisions along the scalp and just behind the hairline. It’s a minimally invasive procedure.

An endoscope or lighted camera is inserted into these incisions. Doing so allows your plastic surgeon to visualize the tissues on a screen.

He then lifts the forehead skin as far as the brows like the traditional forehead lift. Afterward, your surgeon repositions your brows higher with sutures or plates and removes the excess skin that causes lines and wrinkles.

Compared to the traditional forehead lift, the endoscopic forehead lift is less invasive, thus requiring a shorter recovery time.

However, the amount of skin that can be removed by an endoscopic forehead lift is much less than that of the traditional forehead lift. Therefore, it’s less effective for those who have deep forehead lines.

Temporal Brow Lift

The temporal brow lift is probably the happy medium of the 2 cosmetic procedures. It uses two-inch long incisions located discreetly on each side of your forehead, behind your hairline.

Through the incisions, the forehead’s soft tissue is separated from the bone as far as the brows on each side. Your plastic surgeon then lifts the brows to a higher position and removes excess forehead tissue before closing the short incisions.

Unlike the traditional procedure, the temporal brow lift doesn’t move the hairline. Therefore, it doesn’t elongate the forehead. It does an excellent job of repositioning drooping brows. However, it doesn’t treat forehead lines as effectively as a traditional forehead lift.

The temporal brow lift is not recommended for people with thin hair or a high, receding hairline to avoid visible scarring.

How Does Dr. Agha Do a Forehead Lift?

Dr. Agha performs a forehead lift depending on the patient’s goals and anatomical features.

During the consultation, he’ll evaluate your entire forehead region, the muscles underneath, and your upper eyelids. He may ask you to make a series of facial expressions so that he knows exactly what you need.

Most of the time, he combines a forehead/brow lift with a facelift for better results. It can also be paired up with eyelid surgery if you have significant skin overhang on your upper eyelids.

Preparation

Dr. Agha will give you specific instructions on what to do weeks before the surgery to ensure the safe procedures. You also have to buy a few supplies for a fast and smooth recovery.

Anesthesia

Depending on the brow and forehead lift procedure, you may have local or general anesthesia.

Incision

For those patients who have deep forehead lines and low brows, Dr. Agha offers a coronal forehead lift. This surgical procedure requires a coronal incision with, one continuous cut at the level of the ears.

Some younger patients only want to raise the position of the brows and lift the brow tail. If so, that only requires small incisions at the temples to achieve their desired look with a temporal brow lift. These incisions usually get hidden by the hair on the scalp.

Removing Lines and Repositioning Brows

After releasing the forehead and brow from the skull bone, Dr. Agha then raises the soft tissue and skin of your forehead and brows into their new positions.

He may use a plate or deep sutures to keep the tissues in place during the healing process.

Dr. Agha will then remove any excess skin and sew the scalp together to close the incisions.

Post-Surgery

Dr. Agha usually seals your incisions with dissolvable sutures.

Expect your incisions to be covered with light dressing right after surgery. You can remove these bandages in a couple of days.

A typical forehead lift surgery may take about two to three hours.

How Do You Recover from a Forehead Lift?

Recovery varies from patient to patient, but it’s usually quick with minimal downtime for a brow or forehead lift.

During the surgery, Dr. Agha might place a small tube along the incision site to drain any accumulated blood or fluid.

Expect some level of discomfort and itching during the first few days, but each day will be better than the previous one. Dr. Agha will give you oral medications to manage the pain.

You’ll also have swelling and bruising that might last from 7 to 10 days.

Note: Swelling and bruising on areas of your face, such as eyes and cheeks, are possible. They occur due to blood pools in those areas.

To minimize these, keep your head elevated with pillows for the first 3-4 days post-op while sleeping on your back. Apply ice packs to your operative site.

Here’s an estimated timeline of when you can return to your normal activities barring any complications:

TimelineActivity
5-7 daysShowering allowed
Follow-up consultation with Dr. Agha
Up to 5 days post-brow liftBruising and swelling at their peak
2 weeksResume daily normal activities

4 weeksLight exercises allowed
6 weeksNormal exercises and strenuous activities allowed

Make sure that you use gentle shampoo when washing your hair to avoid irritation on your incision site. You may use baby shampoo while your incisions are healing.

Scars fade after a few months, though they won’t be obvious in the first place because they’re behind the hairline.

What Results Can You Expect from a Forehead Lift?

After getting a forehead lift, you can expect:

  • Your eyebrows to be properly positioned on your forehead
  • A smoother and less tensed forehead
  • Minimal fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead
  • A more youthful, refreshed, and approachable look
  • Well-hidden and minimal scars
  • Increased confidence and self-esteem

How Much Does a Newport Beach Forehead Lift Cost?

The ASPS estimates the average cost of a brow lift to be at $4,282, although it can go as high as $20,000 based on customer reviews on RealSelf.

The latter estimate is already inclusive of other fees, such as anesthesia fees, surgical facility costs, medical tests, post-surgery garments, medications, and surgeon’s fee.

Take note: The technique used will affect the cost of treatment. If you decide to get additional treatments, like a facelift or eyelid lift, your total cost will also go up.

Similarly, more experienced surgeons tend to charge higher rates.

Forehead lift is considered an elective procedure, it’s not covered by your insurance. The great news? Dr. Agha provides various financing options to help you manage the surgery cost.
